Working side by side creates space for meaningful conversation and genuine connection. Members build lasting friendships through shared work, shared harvests, and a shared sense of purpose.

Simple Joy

What does Growing Together stand for?
From the garden community
The mission is to grow community and vegetables and have fun doing both. We recognize a need for donating to food pantries and also help with alleviating hunger in the area.
– Karen K.
Location Preference
Already have a garden in mind? Let us know your preferred location when you register. While we'll do our best to accommodate requests, placements are based on availability and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. There are currentll ten garden community locations across Fargo-Moorhead.
Timeslot Preference
Each garden meets once a week for a two-hour session. The meet days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Choose your preferred time and weekday that fits best in your schedule.
It's Free to Join
There is no membership fee. The garden placements start in the spring and close as the growing season begins. The growing season runs from May through October. In exchange for your work at the gardens, you receive a full share once you reach 20 hours or more in the garden.
Additional Opportunities
Renewing Your Membership
At the end of the season, you may continue at your current garden or request a different location for the following year. Please notify leadership of your plans. Membership renewal is free, and we appreciate your ongoing support of the organization.
Collaborative Gardening
Instead of individual plots, Growing Together uses a shared gardening model. Members work side-by-side on the same garden and share in the harvest together. This creates a stronger sense of teamwork, learning, and community.
If you’re interested in helping beyond the weekly garden sessions, there are opportunities to volunteer at the market, cook at local food pantries, and sign up for a variety of other special committee efforts. Learn more about joining a committee.

What Our Members Have to Say
Leah S.
"I think it stands for a group of people binding together for a common interest. We come from all backgrounds but we work together, even when there are communication barriers or even if we are completely different people that have different beliefs, tastes, custom. All that matters is we are kind and work hard for a common ground."
Marie K.
"Before I met Jack Wood and starting volunteering at Growing Together Gardens, I was pretty despondent. I had recently lost my husband and had to sell the house with its garden space and all my flower beds. Working as a volunteer at one of his many gardens has brought me much joy working outside again where I can get my hands dirty with garden dirt."
Cindy G.
"My husband had a medical incident while working at the garden. The care and concern of fellow gardeners after the incident shows how we have grown together during our time with gardening together. This all while we were working to help serve our community. "
